Carol Nolan Demands Update on Healthcare Workers' Bonus Payment

Carol Nolan Demands Update on Healthcare Workers' Bonus Payment

Carol Nolan questioned the timeline and scope of the January bonus payment for healthcare workers, asking when staff will receive the payment and whether all healthcare workers will be included. She noted that most HSE-employed eligible staff have received the payment but sought clarity on outstanding groups.

Payments to HSE staff

The minister said the vast majority of eligible staff employed by the HSE have received their payment, including many Section 38 staff, and that this amounts to about 123,000 staff who would have received their payment.

Status of non-HSE healthcare workers

The minister confirmed work is underway to include non-HSE healthcare workers and that the HSE is building capacity to assist with the payment process for these groups.

Groups identified for inclusion

The minister listed private sector nursing homes and hospices, private voluntary Section 39 staff working on-site, long-term residential care facilities for people with disabilities, agency roles working with the HSE, and healthcare support assistants contracted to the HSE as categories being progressed for payment.

The programme for Government makes reference to supporting our healthcare workers, which is only right, but in January of this year the Government announced a bonus payment for the healthcare workers who did Trojan work during the pandemic. I want to know when the workers will receive this payment and if you will ensure that all healthcare workers are included in this payment. I understand it is the vast majority of those working within the HSE have received their payment, as have some groups that have not quite yet. The vast majority of those eligible who are employed by the HSE have now received a payment and this includes many Section 38 staff. That amounts to about 123,000 staff would have received their payment. In terms of non-HSE healthcare workers, the HSE are working in terms of getting capacity, if you like, to assist with the payment process in respect to private sector nursing homes and hospices, private voluntary Section 39 and so on, eligible staff working on-site in Section 39, long-term residential care facilities for people with disabilities, agency roles working with the HSE, healthcare support assistance contracted to the HSE. that work is underway enough to get those sorted. We said to the HSE we want to as quickly as possible. Thank you.
