Conor D McGuinness demands urgent safety upgrades on N25

Conor D McGuinness demands urgent safety upgrades on N25

Conor D McGuinness raised urgent concerns about the N25, calling for serious investment and safety improvements. He said routine maintenance is no longer enough, highlighted a recent HGV incident near Dungarvan and warned bus stops are being withdrawn.

Main concern

McGuinness described the N25 as the transport spine of Waterford's infrastructure and said it has long been regarded as the most dangerous national road in the state. He emphasised there has been no targeted funding for safety improvements in Waterford.

Maintenance and incidents

He told the chamber that routine resurfacing and line painting are insufficient at this stage. McGuinness pointed out that bus stops are being withdrawn and noted another HGV incident that occurred that morning just outside Dungarvan.

Scope of demanded works

McGuinness called for investment and safety upgrades along the full stretch of the N25 - right from Rosslayer to Cork City - with a particular focus on Waterford where he said funding for safety improvements has not been provided.

Response in the chamber

The speaker yielded the floor and the Taoiseach acknowledged the need for action, saying bypasses are required and that the N25, as a sectional road, definitely needs improvement. The exchange closed with a request for five minutes of attention to the issue.

Taoiseach, once again I'm raising with you the N25, the transport spine of Waterford's infrastructure in long regard as the most dangerous national road in the state. There's been no funding for safety improvements and routine maintenance resurfacing line painting isn't good enough at this stage. Bus stops are being withdrawn. There was another HGV incident this morning just outside Dungarvan. We need to see serious investment and safety improvements in the N25 right from Rosslayer to Cork City but particularly in Waterford where there's been no funding for safety improvements. The floor is yours. Five minutes. And the N25 certainly needs, we do need to get the bypasses as well along that road but that is a sectional road that definitely needs improvement. Thank you.
