Danny Healy-Rae: Urgent fix sought to stop floods
Danny Healy-Rae raises repeated flooding in town square and urges an interim engineering fix to protect local businesses. He asks that the sewer pipe be removed and a small pumping station be installed, and requests Minister Boxer Moran to expedite action.
Danny Healy-Rae told the house that the square in has flooded many times over the years and identified a sewer pipe running through the eye of the Courthouse Bridge as the primary cause. He said the pipe collects debris and trees, blocking the river and triggering floods that repeatedly damage businesses.
Healy-Rae proposed a straightforward interim measure: remove the problematic sewer pipe from the bridge eye and install a small pumping station to convey sewage over the bridge instead. He described the project as simple and actionable while longer-term works are progressed.

Comhairle Taoiseach, the square in Comhairle town has been flooded many times over the years and then to that end I want to thank the Box of Morne, the Minister for Public Works for going down there and taking stock and a scheme is promised to deal with the situation. However there's a sewer pipe crossing the Courthouse Bridge, crossing the eye of the Courthouse Bridge which collects debris and trees and blocks the river practically and which causes most of the flooding. I'm asking if that sewer pipe could be removed in the interim, to facilitate that you'd have to put in a small pumping station to pump the sewer over the bridge rather than going through the eye of the bridge. It's a simple project that could take place. I'm asking if you would talk to the Minister Box of Morne to expedite this matter because to save people's businesses of being destroyed and ruined has happened many different times. Thank you Deputy. Thank you Deputy for raising this and the Minister has been down, Minister Morne, so he's very well aware of the situation. I can't get into the specifics of the engineering resolution of it but I will talk to the Minister and ask him what can be done in the interim.
