Danny Healy-Rae presses for more bus stops and Kilarnay bridge
Danny Healy-Rae addressed the minister about local public transport shortcomings, calling for more bus stops, medium-sized buses, and a connecting bridge at Simon Kilarnay station. He asked the minister to re-examine funding and for the local authority to assist the Department of Transport to improve access in places like Clunkine.
Healy-Rae noted an existing service running from Kilmer through Kilgarvin to Kilarnay and suggested a medium-sized bus might be more suitable than the large bus currently used.
He emphasised the need for more bus stops, saying people are unable to be picked up when buses pass because stops are too far from where they wait.

I'm glad to get the opportunity, Minister. I suppose, first of all, we have more public transport at the present time, and we have a service from Kilmer through Kilgarvin to Kilarnay, and it's great, but maybe a medium-sized bus would suffice rather than the big, large bus that they have. And maybe to see if we could get more bus stops. We need more bus stops, Minister, because it's not much good to have a bus passing by and people waiting on the side of the road, they can't be picked up. You see, they're too far away from the bus stops that we have. The local authority needs to combine and assist with the Department of Transport to provide these bus stops. Places like Clunkine are having difficulty getting access to the public transport. And then there's the other issue that I want to raise. It's in Simon Kilarnay, the train station goes in, and the station's on one side of the railway, the platform there, and then the bus station is on the other side of the railway track. We were looking for a connecting bridge so that you wouldn't have to go out on the street and down by the Great Southern and time being with bags and everything, Minister. We're told that there's no funding for that. I'm asking you to look at this again.
