George Lawlor demands urgent debate on ED crisis at Wexford

George Lawlor demands urgent debate on ED crisis at Wexford

George Lawlor called for an urgent debate on the crisis in emergency departments, citing a severe incident at Wexford General Hospital. He said 14 ambulances were stacked up outside the hospital, with some taken out of service for up to seven hours, and called for a demountable unit for Wexford to prevent a repeat.

Emergency department crisis

He warned that ED departments across the country are facing an urgent crisis and said an immediate debate is required to address capacity and patient flow issues.

Ambulance delays at Wexford General Hospital

Lawlor cited last week’s incident at Wexford General Hospital where 14 ambulances were stacked up because the emergency department was already packed, with some ambulances out of service for up to seven hours.

Proposal for demountable unit

He argued that Wexford needs a demountable unit to avoid the same crisis happening again and to relieve pressure on the emergency department.

Responses in the chamber

The contribution was followed by brief acknowledgements in the chamber, including the phrases "Thank you, Deputy Lawler" and a mention of Deputy Gannon.
