Danny Healy-Rae demands action as coastal fishing jobs vanish

Why is it being allowed?" He named local fishing areas from Castedown Bear into Kinmer, the Ivaraa Peninsula, the Dingle Peninsula and up to the Shannon Estuary.
Call on the minister and task force
He called directly on the minister responsible for fisheries to act and questioned what the government's task force will achieve. He challenged past ministers who he said did not do their job and urged the current minister to "get down on your knees and get to work," while also noting a reference to the Minister for Foreign Affairs and the EU presidency in his remarks.

Look, every one of us knows that Ireland is surrounded by water, and we should and do own our waters, and I can't understand for the life of me, how the UK are entitled to fish on, we said the coastal waters that are up here to the 26 counties. Because all up the west, that's all belong to Southern Ireland, that is the tip of Dunygar. And we should be entitled to fish it. How have they a say on us having to shed 23,000 jobs? What are these fellas going to live in? Live in the wind of the sea here? God almighty, people are so happy to get, and people can't keep a roof over their head if they're working every day and night as well. And you see, this is hurting the whole community. It is hurting the shops, it is hurting the servicemen, it is hurting the garages, it is hurting every sector of our coastal community to have these fellas. And you see, there's something serious wrong. Before this, caught in the quarters at all, because for the last three years, 25, 24 and 23, no mackerel came into the village of Kilgaven or Kilmer. They're not to be seen or they're not to be had. Who's taking them? Where are they going? Why is it being allowed? Have we anyone to shout, stop? And we here know that because of the EU presidency, the Minister for Foreign Affairs is going to bulk up our army or whatever it is. I don't know what that's for. But these people are down on their knees. They went out bad days and good days to try to bring home to eat a bit of a living and to keep food on the table. And they went all the way from Castedown Bear into Kinmer and out to the Ivaraa Peninsula and all the way along the Dingle Peninsula and up to them out of the Shannon Estuary. Minister, whatever you're saying about the task force, and I don't know what this task force is going to do, but do something, please. This is your time. You're the minister responsible for the fisheries. And I'm calling you out now because we had fellas there before that didn't do their job.
