Rose Conway-Walsh calls for R312 to be designated regional road

Rose Conway-Walsh calls for R312 to be designated regional road

Rose Conway-Walsh spoke in the Dáil about road and flood infrastructure in County Mayo, focusing on the R312 and related works. She urged that the R312 be designated a regional strategic road to secure necessary funding and described the route as dangerous.

R312 designation request

She told the Taoiseach the R312 is the main road connecting Eris to the county town to Castlebar and argued designation as a regional strategic road is the only way to obtain the funding needed.

Safety and local impact

She said the R312 is a dangerous road that people have put up with for years and called for improvement to protect residents who use the route daily.

Flood relief and critical infrastructure

She linked the road and other works to wider flood relief at Clontarf and described these measures as critical infrastructure in the face of worsening storms, saying protection for people, households and businesses must be accelerated.

N25 and bypasses

She also referenced the N25, noting that bypasses are required along that road and that sectional improvements are necessary.

Taoiseach I know you'll agree that the people in Mayo deserve to have proper road infrastructure and I want to specifically talk to you about the R312, the main road connecting Eris to the county town to Castlebar today. I want it to be designated a regional strategic road because that is the only way that it will get the funding that it's needed. It is a dangerous road people have put up with it for years. It is the R312. Thank you very much. Deputy Barry Heenahan. Deputy Rose Conway Walsh, the R312. I'll talk and engage with the Minister in respect of Deputy Heenahan. I discussed that in terms of Clontarf and the flood relief generally. It will be part of critical infrastructure. Yes, absolutely. I see it as critical infrastructure because it's a big threat to us. The storms are worse. They're more severe and we need to accelerate protection of people and households and businesses in that respect and the N25 certainly needs, we do need to get the bypasses as well along that road but that is a sectional road that definitely needs improvement. you
