Rose Conway-Walsh: Urges Ban on Israeli Bonds over Gaza
Rose Conway-Walsh delivered a speech condemning Israel's actions in Gaza and urged the government to enact Sinn Féin's Israeli war bonds bill to stop the sale of Israeli bonds. She described graphic scenes from Gaza, saying the horrors and genocide visited on the people there are "shocking, disturbing and disgusting." She recounted images of a child with no head, patients burning to death in hospital beds, and cited "over 55,000 dead Palestinians, dead doctors, dead journalists, dead aid workers," with countless more maimed.
Financial accountability and proposed legislation
She accused Ireland of enabling the conflict by allowing financial instruments to be sold, saying "this evening you stand between 12 billion euro that has been spent on bombs and bullets to slaughter the people of Gaza." She set out Sinn Féin's Israeli war bonds bill as the legislative remedy - a measure to remove the permission provided by the central bank for the sale of Israeli bonds across the EU.
Legal compatibility and parliamentary demand
She asserted the bill is compatible with EU law and Irish law and insisted it "must be enacted." The speech framed the measure as a lawful step the government can take now to stop Ireland being used to raise funds for what she called a campaign amounting to ethnic cleansing and annihilation.
Humanitarian warnings and political stance
She warned that 14,000 babies are close to death from forced starvation and urged the government not to "besmirch our own history of forced starvation" by allowing bond sales to continue. She closed by reaffirming Sinn Féin's steadfast support for Palestine and with a reiterated party refrain.

I have never seen a state so devoid of humanity, so cruel and so callous. A child with no head, a child crawling through the flames of a makeshift hospital camp trying to get to safety. Patients burn to death as they lie in their hospital beds. Over 55,000 dead Palestinians, dead doctors, dead journalists, dead aid workers. Countless more maimed and living with horrific injuries. Children with no families, parents with no children. This is not a war. Gaza has no army. This is a non-relenting occupation and ethnic cleansing of the Palestinian people. It is an annihilation that is being live streamed day after day. It is hard not to feel utterly useless in the face of onslaught, but there are things that we can do. Sinn Féin's Israeli war bonds bill will remove the permission provided by the central bank for the sale of Israeli bonds across the EU. It is compatible with EU law and Irish law and must be enacted. 14,000 babies are close to death from forced starvation. I ask the government not to besmirch our own history of forced starvation and enact this bill to prevent Israel using Ireland to raise money for its genocide.
