These EU drone regulations cover both recreational and commercial use and aim to achieve the same level of safety for drone operations as in manned aviation.
National laws and oversight
Implementation of the EU drone regulations and standards is overseen by the Irish Aviation Authority and the Civil Aviation Regulator. In addition to EU rules, drone operators must comply with national laws, including environmental planning and privacy laws.

My understanding is that Minister O'Brien, Minister for Transport, is finalising work on a draft policy framework at present, and he expects to publish it in the summer. That is a policy framework for unmanned aircraft systems, and will be seeking to identify and address any public regulatory or legislative gaps. There is a comprehensive European Union legislative framework in place to regulate safe drone operations that is directly applicable in Ireland.
