Mattie McGrath Congratulates Four New Teachta Dála
Mattie McGrath congratulated the four successful Teachta Dála, welcoming them, their families and supporters and praising their campaign efforts in all kinds of weather. He voiced concern about turnout and said people in Rural Island feel abandoned by governments and want to be listened to.
Election congratulations
McGrath spoke on behalf of the Rural Independent Group and other independents without a representative to congratulate the four successful Tachta Dála. He welcomed them to the Spishulta and acknowledged the families and supporters who knocked on doors for them.

He described election to this Dala Chamber as a powerful honour and said the experience is a learning curve and a great exercise in democracy. He also urged the new TDs to be careful how they vote that night so they would not be "gone out again this evening."
Turnout and Rural Island concerns
McGrath raised concerns about turnout and stressed that people are rightly worried. He said the people in Rural Island feel abandoned by governments and are not being listened to, and that they want their voices heard.

I think it's a powerful honour, as others have alluded to, to be elected here to this Dala Chamber, and to come in here. today, maybe they'll have to be careful how they vote tonight, make sure that they won't be gone out again this evening, but nonetheless, it's a learning curve, and it's a great exercise in democracy, that they put themselves before the people, and indeed all the other candidates who did, like others, and this is obviously concerned about the turnout, and you know, the people are concerned, and rightly so concerned, and the D&A are fortunate here, and the people in Rural Island are definitely concerned, and because, you know, we always have a healthy turnout, in Rural Island, and they are concerned that the governments, successful governments, have abandoned them, and left them, and not listening to them, so they want them to be listened, so I wish the four new TDs all the best, for as long as they're here, and for the future careers as well, go to Marcos.
