Carol Nolan urges new Taoiseach to act on health and rural jobs

Firstly, I want to begin by congratulating Sean O'Farrill as our Ciancola for this term and I wish him well in his endeavours and indeed in his role. I also want to thank sincerely the constituents of Lee Shoffley who put their faith and trust in me as an independent candidate that went forward in the election and I understand it's 40 years or more since we had an independent ED in Lee Shoffley so I'm delighted to be reliving the history. I would like to begin by saying whoever the new Taoiseach is and indeed that's very uncertain at the minute, I believe that that new Taoiseach has huge responsibility in terms of tackling and challenging the huge failures we have in our health system. We have a failing health system that is failing elderly people, disabled people, children with special needs and those of all ages who badly need to access mental health services. In many cases the services are not there unless they are voluntary run which I know in my own area of Lee Shoffley we have many great voluntary services but if it were not for those services people would be left in desperate need and I would hope that that would improve in this tall term. I believe that the new Taoiseach also has huge responsibility to rural Ireland not enough is being done for rural Ireland not enough is being done for agriculture I know that many farmers particularly beef and suckler farmers have had a desperate time of it and I would hope that there would be genuine support and that there would be resistance to any attempts to cut the cap budget. I would hope also that regions like the midlands would get fairer play, we need urgent attention particularly in light of the Borden and Mona job losses in Offaly alone we are standing to lose up to a thousand jobs and I know it was brought to my intention there only last week that jobs have been lost also in Mount Melik in County Leash and I would hope that there would be genuine efforts to address job losses in that region urgently and support the workers in both cases. In both cases as I say the Borden and the workers and the workers of the company in Mount Melik who were served with notice only a few weeks ago. So I do wish whoever the new Taoiseach is the very best but I believe that that new Taoiseach has to step up to the plate and has more to do in terms of proving him or herself. Thank you very much.
