Mattie McGrath demands Tipperary Town bypass in NDP review
Mattie McGrath urged that the National Development Plan review include a bypass for Tipperary Town, pressing for funding and a link to the M24 footprint. He argued the bypass is vital to relieve fumes, heavy trucks and extra traffic that has worsened since Brexit.
Request to include bypass in NDP review
McGrath told colleagues the review of the National Development Plan is imminent and asked that specific funding for the M24 around Tipperary Town be included. He stressed it is vital that the bypass be provided so residents, businesses and households can live without fumes and heavy truck traffic.
Local groups and constituency support
He referenced local campaigns and organisations backing the project - Jobs for Tipper, Mass for Tipper, the Task Force, the Chamber and Councillor Anne-Marie Ryan - and said Deputies and other constituency colleagues have raised the issue consistently.
Route alignment and funding focus
McGrath asked that any bypass be on the footprint of the new M24, which he noted runs from Limerick to Waterford. His plea focused on ensuring funding for works around Tipperary Town is captured in the NDP review.
Political engagement and ministerial stance
He recalled that the Tánaiste had said the review was imminent and appealed directly to his interlocutor for support in securing the funding. McGrath added that the minister is an enthusiast for bypasses and framed the request as a practical, urgent local need.

I again raise with you the plight of the people of Tipperary Town, the Jobs for Tipper, Mass for Tipper, and indeed the Task Force and the Chamber, Councillor Anne-Marie Ryan and others. It is vital that we get the bypass included. Hopefully it will be on the footprint of the new M24, which goes from Limerick to Waterford. But something has to be included to relieve and let the people of Tipperary, business and households, live without fumes, without ladders, for trucks. It is desperate since Brexit, extra traffic. So would you please ensure that Tipperary Town the funding for that M24 department especially around Tipperary Town is included in that review. The Deputies, all your colleagues in the constituency have raised this issue on a consistent basis. I know that you're tremendous support to Minister Eamon Ryan and all of his policies, and you'll be glad to know that he's an enthusiast for bypasses.
