Mattie McGrath Urges Lighting Upgrade at Caire Castle Ahead of Visit
Mattie McGrath urged the minister to upgrade the lighting system at Caire Castle to better display the building ahead of an expected royal visit. He linked the castle's lighting to the colours of Ukraine and praised the OPW and local team for their work.
Lighting request
The deputy asked the minister to upgrade the OPW outdoor lighting at Caire Castle so the building can be better showcased. He noted that most OPW buildings can now be lit and referenced a recent lighting display at "the building here last night."
Royal visit and timing
He said Caire Castle recently won a prestigious film award and that a visit from the royal family is expected very soon, making an upgrade particularly timely.
Colours and symbolism
The deputy pointed out that the "splendid colours of the Ukraine" match the tip of the island colours and expressed a wish to use those colours on OPW buildings, including the castle.

You might know that the Caire Castle has won a prestigious film award recently and we're expecting a visit from the royal family very soon. The OPW need to upgrade the lighting system in that castle and indeed the splendid colours of the Ukraine are the same as the tip of the island colours and we'd love to be able to do that with most OPW buildings can now including the building here last night. I'm asking Minister Dunham to try and upgrade the lighting system for the show off our splendid castle that's there in Caire. and Eldar Monersey and our team do a fabulous job and we're having a set of royal visits so it's timely that we would have an upgrade on the outdoor lighting to really display that wonderful building and indeed all who visit it. Thank you. I always endeavour to shine light. You're on the deck a lot of time too. As a Cork man, you know, we're particularly anxious to bring light to the Tipperary heartland. Stop an issue now. I can assure the deputy that during the summer as we travel to Thurlis, we'll be shedding a lot of light in respect of the sporting arena. But I will talk to Minister O'Donovan in respect of this.
