Éamon Ó Cuív presses minister on rural housing and mortgage relief
Éamon Ó Cuív questioned the minister on rural one-off houses, social housing delivery and reinstating the mortgage interest supplement. He urged reversal of the department's approach to family members' sites, sought clarity on 2020 social housing outputs and called for the return of mortgage interest support abolished in 2014.

He asked whether the department will reverse its view on social housing and local authority houses on people's sites that are available for family members, noting that more dispersed communities are less vulnerable to disease.
Social housing delivery and planning delays
He pressed the minister on how lost time will be made up in progressing planning and the delivery of local authority houses needed urgently, asking for the expectation and output of promised social housing for 2020 compared with the start of the year.
Mortgage interest supplement
He asked whether there had been discussions with the Minister of Social Protection about reinstituting the mortgage interest scheme that paid mortgage interest during unemployment, criticised relying on banks' goodwill and pointed out the scheme was abolished in 2014.

Minister, three questions very quickly, 38 seconds. Rural one-off houses. Will the department reverse its view in relation to social housing, local authority houses, on people's sites that are available for family members that the department has been disapproving of so long, particularly in view of the fact that it is quite recognisable that in the more dispersed the community is, the less that they are vulnerable to disease. The second thing is, how are we going to make up the lost time in progressing, planning and the rest of local authority houses that are needed urgently? In other words, what is your expectation and the output of the promised social housing for 2020 compared to what you had at the beginning of the year? And the third one is, had you any discussions with the Minister of Social Protection about reinstituting the mortgage interest scheme that used to be there in the department whereby if you couldn't pay your mortgage interest because of unemployment, it was paid for you for the period of unemployment? Relying on banks' goodwill, to be quite honest, I'm fed up with that one. I don't believe in it. In 2014, you abolished mortgage interest supplement, bring it back. Will you correspond, Minister?
