Brendan Smith: Urgent call to replace The Day Centre
Brendan Smith raises the urgent need to replace the Day Centre in County Cavan, the current home of the day activation unit for adults with complex needs. He argues that these adults deserve modern, state-of-the-art facilities and that previously approved plans for a new Cavan town activation unit must be implemented without delay.
Current situation: The video describes how the Day Centre, which houses County Cavan's Day Activation Unit, is outdated and provides totally inadequate accommodation for the adults who attend. Brendan Smith stresses the immediate need for replacement and relocation of the centre.
Importance of day services: The address emphasises that day services are a vital support for adults with disabilities, enabling participation in day-to-day activities and helping individuals to realise their own potential. Poor facilities, he says, undermine that essential support.
Approved plans and local demand: Brendan Smith recalls that approval was given some time ago for a new activation unit in the Cavan town area, and he urges that this commitment be delivered at the earliest possible date to meet local need.
Response and next steps: In response to the remarks, another deputy thanks Brendan Smith and commits to raising the matter with the relevant Minister and seeking a direct reply. The video highlights both the local urgency and the official channel being pursued to secure action.

The Rancor Day Centre is the location for County Cavan's Day Activation Unit. This unit provides adult day services for persons with complex needs and unfortunately this centre is totally outdated and needs to be replaced as quickly as possible. The adults attending a day activation unit deserve to have modern and state-of-the-art facilities. It is not acceptable that these services are provided in totally inadequate accommodation at present. Day services are a vital support for adults with disabilities to enable them to participate in day-to-day activities and to realise their own potential. A considerable amount of time ago approval was given for the provision of a new activation unit in the general Cavantown area and it is essential that this new accommodation is provided at an early date. The existing centre urgently needs to be replaced and relocated. Thank you, Baskin Corlew. Thank you. Thank you very much Deputy Smith for raising this very important issue for your area. So I will raise it with the Minister in question. Obviously I haven't the knowledge of the specific issue in question but I will raise it with the Minister and get her to revert back to you directly.
