Denis Naughten delivers farewell after nearly 28 years
Denis Naughten delivered his final contribution in the Oireachtas, thanking constituents of Longford, Leitrim, Galway and Roscommon and staff after nearly 28 years in Parliament. He expressed mixed emotions about leaving the House, acknowledged committee colleagues and constituency support, and formally adjourned the Select Committee.
Denis Naughten opened by stating this was his last contribution in the Oireachtas after nearly 28 years and thanked the people of the counties of Longford, Leitrim, Galway and Roscommon for their trust and support over the years.
He offered particular thanks to the committee team past and present, naming the late Paul Kelly, Eilish Murphy and Jack Savage, and the current team Cuivo O'Rourke, Ciara Marion, Hayley O'Shea and Devin Whitson, along with wider support staff who keep the committee operation running.
Naughten thanked those who held the fort in the constituency during his tenure, specifically mentioning Deirdre Concanon and Jill Mellor for their support.
He paid tribute to his family for their support through difficult and challenging times and described his departure from the House as being felt with mixed emotions, offering well wishes to younger colleagues including Deputy O'Cueve and Young Deputy O'Cahasi.
He concluded the committee's business in public session, thanked members for participating and formally adjourned the Select Committee. His closing included the word "Sineaday" and multiple repetitions of the phrase "Go to the next one," as the meeting ended.

As this is my last contribution in the Oireachtas after nearly 28 years in Parliament, I want to thank the people of the counties of Longford, Leitrim, Galway and Roscommon most sincerely for the trust that they've placed in me over the years. It's been truly an honour to represent the people from these counties in Dáil-Eirden over that time. I want to sincerely thank all of the staff who've worked with me over the years and I particularly want to mention the committee team here. Over the last four years we've had the late Paul Kelly, Eilish Murphy and Jack Savage and of course the current team that we have here, Cuivo O'Rourke, Ciara Marion, Hayley O'Shea and Devin Whitson and all of the support staff here that keep this committee operation going. I also want to thank those who held the fourth for me in the constituency, particularly Deirdre Concanon and Jill Mellor. And finally I want to thank my family for their support over the years, which at times has been difficult and challenging. And it is, you know, I suppose with mixed emotions, Minister, Deputy O'Cueve, that we're all leaving the House. Young Deputy O'Cahasi has many more years here and we wish him many more years of successful representation in this House. So that concludes the committee's business in public session for today.
