Rose Conway-Walsh: Calls to probe neutrality and the triple lock
Rose Conway-Walsh, speaking as chair of the committee, warned that attempts to constrain the committee would hinder its work and urged members be allowed to carry out their duties. She called for an urgent discussion of neutrality, the triple lock and misinformation and disinformation, and for the committee to gather expertise, dispel myths and produce a consolidated report.
Main concerns
Contributions reflect the experience and expertise within the committee, but the chair highlighted a shared worry about any constraints that might be attempted against the committee. There was consensus that the committee must be permitted to do the job in hand.
Priority topics for discussion
The chair identified neutrality and the triple lock as urgent items for debate and said misinformation and disinformation should also be addressed. Members were urged to have a full and frank conversation on these issues.
Use of expertise and evidence
The chair called for expertise to be brought into the committee to dispel myths and inform deliberations, stressing the value of members' contributions, expertise and experience. The intention is to accumulate those inputs into a report produced by the committee.
Work plan and inclusivity
The work plan will be discussed in detail and the chair, with the secretariat, will explore the additional material submitted to ensure every voice is equally heard. The committee aims to consolidate evidence and produce a report reflecting all contributions and perspectives.

And I just want to say I think those contributions reflect the experience and the expertise that we have within this committee and the job I think that we will be able to do provided we are allowed to do that job so there's two significant things I suppose I hear in particular all of the contributions have been significant and relative but it's around the concerns of any constraints that may be attempted to put on this committee to do the really valuable job that we need to do so I think we have consensus around that we need to be able to do the job in hand and the other thing that comes to the fore and we will discuss the work plan in detail but is the urgent necessity to discuss the neutrality and the triple lock and I think as was said by some members as well around the misinformation and disinformation so let's get the expertise into the this committee let's dispel any myths and let's have a full and frank conversation and accumulate that in a report from this committee using everybody's contributions and expertise and experience as I said so they are the two main things but there's also very other valuable information that has been submitted this morning and I as the chair with the secretariat will explore all of those things that everybody's voice is equally heard on this committee so if there's if they're-
