Mattie McGrath condemns guillotine on vital legislation
Mattie McGrath spoke against the expedited handling of legislation and said there had been no opportunity for appeal or legislative scrutiny. He said four pieces of legislation were now involved and that a planned cancellation of a sunset clause in June had been pre-empted.
Opposition to the guillotine
He described the decision to guillotine the legislation as a total insult to democratically elected people and said it was totally unacceptable. He said he was fully opposed to the approach.
Procedural concerns
He said there had been no appeal or legislative scrutiny for the measures and objected sternously to the process. He warned the timetable allowed only two and a half hours for debate tomorrow, for all stages.

I too object sternously to this. We had no appeal legislative scrutiny in this legislation. Four pieces of legislation are now involved and it was meant to be a cancellation of the sunset clause in June. Here we are with this legislation now being guillotined. Two and a half hours debate tomorrow, all stages. It is a total insult to democratically elected people here and it's totally unacceptable and I am fully opposed to it.
