Mattie McGrath urges lifting of 'these' in schools
Deputy Mattie McGrath thanked the Cabinet for securing parity of esteem for the South-East in the air rescue service and urged the government to lift the wearing of these in schools, saying they are unnecessary and uncomfortable for children. He told ministers that some children cannot wear them and that there is a lot of angst, asking the Government to prioritise children's welfare.

Deputy Mattie McGrath opened by thanking the Cabinet for ensuring parity of esteem with the South-East regarding the air rescue service, acknowledging the decision taken the previous day.
Request to lift school requirements
He asked that the wearing of these in schools be lifted, describing them as unnecessary and uncomfortable for children. He said some children cannot wear them and that they cause significant angst among pupils.

A minister replied that there has been significant lifting of restrictions following public health advice. The minister said the advice remains to maintain existing safety protocols in schools to protect children while vaccination opportunities continue.

First of all I think there has been very significant lifting of restrictions on advice that we received from public health authorities, the advice was to maintain the existing protocols around safety in our schools and in so doing, you know, to protect children whilst the opportunity for children to get vaccinated continues and we will keep that matter under review.
