Gino Kenny urges passage of Occupy Territories Bill

Gino Kenny urges passage of Occupy Territories Bill

Gino Kenny urged the government to pass and legislate the Occupy Territories Bill, criticising its omission from the Programme for Government. He said the people of Palestine are tired of platitudes from the EU and the international community and insisted the time for platitudes and showing solidarity to the Palestinian people is now.

Call to pass the Occupy Territories Bill

He appealed directly to the government over the omission of the Occupy Territories Bill from the Programme for Government, arguing that the omission was the moment to make a stand and that the bill should be passed and legislated for.

Critique of international responses

He said the people of Palestine are tired of platitudes from the EU and the international community, framing the debate as a failure of political statements without concrete legislative action.

Principled argument for action

He argued there are times to make a stand "not because it's popular or unpopular, but it's the right thing to do," presenting the bill's passage as a moral imperative rather than a political calculation.

There are times when you have to make a stand, not because it's popular or unpopular, but it's the right thing to do. And the omission of the Occupy Territories Bill from the Programme for Government was the time to make that stand. The people of Palestine are tired of platitudes from the EU and the international community. Sorry, this has gone... I'll do it the manual way. But my appeal is, this government, in relation to the Occupy Territories Bill, that it would be passed and legislated for. The time for platitudes and showing solidarity to the Palestinian people is now. We've let down the Palestinian people because of the omission of this Occupy Territories Bill, and it's time to pass this legislation. Thank you.
