Gino Kenny: Calls for clarity on adult education tutors' pay parity
Gino Kenny raised concerns about adult education tutors planning a protest over terms and conditions and pay parity. He pressed for clarity on when a proposal by Deeper, tabled in September, will lead to settlement and recognition of tutors as public servants.

The speaker noted that adult education tutors will organise a protest outside the building at one o'clock to demand improved terms and conditions. Tutors say they are not treated properly compared with other public servants.

Kenny highlighted tutors' concerns about pay parity and the public services contract. He said workers want to know when the matter will be settled and when they will gain parity with their colleagues and formal recognition as public servants.
Employment status and industrial relations process
The Taoiseach responded that the tutors are employees of the education and training boards and that an industrial relations process must be followed. The Taoiseach said he was not certain at what point negotiations currently stand.

The Taoiseach undertook to seek more information from the Minister of Education and the Minister of Public Expenditure and said officials would come back later or next week with an update.

Taoiseach, today adult education tutors will organise a protest outside this building at one o'clock in relation to demanding improved terms and conditions for their job. And they state they are not treated properly in relation to any other public servant. And obviously they have a number of issues around pay parity and public services contract. Now obviously this is a very protracted set of circumstances and what the workers want to know is since September there was a proposal by Deeper in relation to their situation. And I think what the workers want to know is when will this be settled and when will they get parity between their colleagues in relation to being recognised as public servants. Thanks Deputy, and I am aware of the dispute that is ongoing. I understand that the people concerned are employees of the education and training boards. But obviously there is an industrial relations process that has to be followed and negotiations have to occur. And I am not sure exactly at what point they are at the moment. But I will endeavour to get some more information from the Minister of Education and the Minister of Public Expenditure. We will come back to you later or next week.
